Dr. McMillen was raised in central Pennsylvania but has spent the majority of her life in Aiken. She earned her undergraduate degree from USC Aiken and went on to attend veterinary school at Ross University in St. Kitts. During her time at Ross, she formed lasting friendships and enjoyed playing beach volleyball on Friday afternoons-her favorite way to unwind after a busy week of classes. She completed her clinical year of training at Virginia Tech.
Dr. McMillen grew up competing in three-day eventing with her horses and working on her family’s farm. Her favorite horse, Holly, carried her through training-level competitions before retiring to a more relaxed trail-riding lifestyle. Horses have always held a special place in her heart, and she even considered pursuing a career in equine medicine. While at Virginia Tech, however, she completed a surgical rotation focused on soft tissue and orthopedic procedures in small animals and discovered her passion for small animal surgery. Today, her primary professional interest surgery and geriatric pet care.
Dr. McMillen lives in Aiken with her fiance’, two pit bulls, two cats, and two horses. Though she no longer competes, she still enjoys trail riding. Outside of work, she loves to travel-whether exploring nearby towns or venturing to other countries. Experiencing different cultures and cuisines is one of her greatest joys. She has been a valued member of the veterinary team at Hammond Hills Animal Hospital for five years and continues to enjoy all aspects of clinical practice.
